Beneficial Software's guiding principle is the
idea that software should be designed to benefit the user by
doing something useful and being easy to use.
Some of the software we showcase was developed
by us, but mostly you'll find recommendations for software from
other companies.
How much do they pay to be listed on our site?
Nothing! Being listed just means we found the software to be
beneficial.
If you have a suggestion for something to add,
let us know, but we'll only add it if we use it for a while and
find it to be of value.
Desktop Publishing
- PageMaker 6.5 - A very easy to use but
powerful page layout program. Great for newsletters,
brochures, etc. Although PageMaker 7.0 has been released,
we haven't tried it yet.
- PaintShopPro 5.0 - Still our favorite software
for manipulating photos and graphics images.
Ergonomics
- RSIGuard - A program by one of our staff for helping to
prevent repetitive strain injuries from computer use.
- NaturallySpeaking - Voice recognition software
for general text entry. As good as it gets, though voice
recognition is still not perfect.
Desktop Efficiency Tools
- Folder Size - A powerful tool for
understanding disk usage on your Windows machine. It includes excellent navigation, visualization, and a good UX experience.
Database
- Approach - Sure, most
people use Access. But if you aren't a programmer, Lotus
Approach is an amazingly powerful database application
that's somewhat easier to use.
Software Development
- Microsoft
Visual C++ - Great software from Microsoft? Truly one
of the finer tools ever for developing software.
Audio Tools
- CoolEdit - A
great tool for manipulating mono or stereo audio files
- Vegas
Audio/Vegas
Video - Two tools from Sonic Foundry that are
extremely intuitive ways to develop complex audio and
video content.
